PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

The Graphic Artist Guild is a national organization that describes itself as, "Dedicated to the artist and designer, rather than to art and design. Our mandate is to advance the economic and social interests of all professional graphic artists." I highly recommend the Guild’s "Handbook of Pricing and Ethical Guidelines" as essential reading for any designer even though the most recent edition is lacking in computer graphics information, and does not address Web design at all. Many freelancers will find the average prices they list to be quite high, possibly because they are based on prices provided by the Guild’s largely NYC-based membership. Includes U.S. Copyright Law references and links. Suzanne Stephens
